Why Choose DeWalt?
Tools from this company go through rigorous testing when they are in the development phase, and many of the tools are tested to ensure they work correctly before being packaged for customers. DEWALT products in the American market are made in the USA with global materials.
History
DeWalt has a long history of providing innovations for the job site. Even after nearly 100 years of being in business, it continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Founding and Milestones
It all started when Raymond DeWalt created a woodworking machine that increased productivity and versatility in 1922. At the time, he was the superintendent of Seabrook Farms. Just two years later, he established DeWalt Products Company in Leola, Pennsylvania. The electric woodworking machine he began selling was named “Wonder-Worker” because it was configurable in nine ways. DeWalt also sold a dedicated mortiser and jointer when the company was founded. By 1929, the company moved to an upgraded plant and office building in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Because the government had a greater demand for defense and wartime machinery in 1941, DeWalt went through rapid growth again. The company was reincorporated as DeWalt Inc. in 1947. Two years later, the American Machine Foundry (AMF) acquired the company. In 1953, DeWalt Inc. expanded its operations into Canada with the subsidiary DeWalt Canada Ltd. Increasing customer demand also led the company to add 40,000 square feet to its manufacturing plant.
The brand’s first line of portable electric power tools and accessories that were designed for residential use was released in 1992. Over 30 cordless tools were introduced in 1994. For the time period, DeWalt produced the most powerful 14.4-volt cordless drill/driver and 5 3/8″ cordless saw. From 1999 to 2009, DEWALT sponsored Matt Kenseth in NASCAR.
By 2001, this brand was manufacturing over 200 electric power tools and over 800 accessories. DeWalt conducted extensive research to develop SHOCKS Active Vibration Control, which was finalized in 2005. This technology reduced vibration by up to 50%. The 12V MAX System of lithium-ion tools was released in 2010. These tools were designed to improve comfort while keeping the tools compact. The Metal Cutting Diamond Blade line of accessories was also released the same year. They increased the lifespan up to 100 times compared to the standard DeWalt chop saw blade.
At STAFDA 2013, DeWalt announced its Made in USA initiative. Products that are made in the USA will have the Made in USA logo. This same year, DeWalt started a three-year partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project. The company donated over $480,000 in sales of the specialized DeWalt WWP Limited Edition Tools. Another major milestone in 2013 was the setup of the brand’s manufacturing plant in Charlotte, N.C.
In 2015, DeWalt launched Tool-Connect, which gives you the ability to monitor your tools through the app. You need Bluetooth-enabled batteries to use this feature. DeWalt created the world’s first battery that can change its voltage when you change tools. This battery, called FLEXVOLT, was released in 2016.
DeWalt has contributed many other innovations to the industry, such as the 20V MAX System, DEWALT BREAKAWAY Reciprocating Saw Blades, and DeWalt Job site Wi-Fi.
Production and Manufacturing
DeWalt takes great care in manufacturing high-quality, dependable products. It has systems in place to check for quality, safety, and durability.
Products
The DeWalt power station jump starter provides 1,400 peak amps, which is compatible with most V8-powered cars and trucks. It’s built with a 120 PSI digital auto-stop compressor, an integrated 500-watt power inverter, and a quad USB power bank. The 1,400 peak amp jump starter and power station also has a high-intensity LED work light. Its 120-psi digital compressor allows you to re-inflate tires and sports equipment with its quick jump-starting power. DeWalt power stations are reliable ways of getting power on the go when you need it.
Grinders and polishers in various sizes are available. You can also buy accessories and attachments for DeWalt grinders, including shrouds, flanges, cup wheel guards, and keyless guards. The 60V MAX 7″ Brushless Cordless Grinder with Kickback Brake is cordless and automatically shuts down when it detects a stall, pinch, or bind-up. It has a max output of 3 HP and up to 2,500 watts.
Multi-tools, also called oscillating tools, can handle multiple tasks like cutting, sawing, grinding, and polishing all in one tool. The DEWALT XTREME 12V MAX Brushless Cordless Oscillating Tool Kit can be used to sand, remove rust, and trim pipes. It has a bright LED light to help ensure your accuracy in poor lighting.
DeWalt makes a range of cordless nailers and staplers to meet different needs, such as roof nailing, floor stapling, concrete nailing, framing nailing, and finishing stapling. Common features of DeWalt nailers and staplers are easy jam clearing, integrated rafter hooks, and tool-free indexed depth setting.
The brand makes outdoor equipment, such as lawnmowers, lawn edgers, string trimmers, blowers, vacuums, cutting and pruning tools, washers, pumps, and hoses. DeWalt lawn mowers can handle tough, overgrown yards. True to the brand, its other outdoor equipment is also designed to handle otherwise challenging tasks.
The 20V MAX DEWALT POWERSTACK Compact Battery has a longer lifespan and a more compact size than many other portable batteries. It uses pouch battery cell technology and can be used on construction sites. DeWalt won an award at the WOOD Magazine Innovate Awards 2022 for this compact battery. It’s also one of the first major power tool brands to use pouch battery cell technology.

Manufacturing
DeWalt has seven manufacturing facilities across the US. Other locations that we haven’t mentioned yet include Greenfield, Ind., Jackson, Tenn., Cheraw S.C., New Britain, Conn., and Hampstead, Md.
DeWalt is constantly researching how it can improve its products in terms of usability, performance, and productivity. The brand believes in only making changes that improve a product, not for the sake of having change. Some of the technology that DeWalt employs is also used in aircraft and space exploration.
DeWalt puts its products through rigorous testing. The testing team drops them, covers them in dust, shakes them, stalls them out, freezes them, leaves them out in bad weather, runs them non-stop for weeks, and switches them on and off millions of times. DeWalt products are tested on a jobsite as well. The company welcomes user feedback to get ideas on how to improve its products.
Materials used in manufacturing DeWalt products come from the US and other countries. DeWalt buys materials from other countries when it can’t find them in the US or the cost is too high from the US.
Charlotte is one of the brand’s flagship factories. The 20-volt MAX XR three-speed cordless drill and screwdriver is put together manually at this factory by a nine-person line. Each person has a workstation with bright lighting, visual assembly aids, tool balancers, parts bins, and other necessary equipment. Flow racks are behind the workstations to make it easy for workers to replenish their parts bins. The tool they’re assembling is held in a soft plastic container to help prevent damage as the workers pass it down the assembly line.
After the tool is assembled, it’s passed to another worker for testing to confirm it works correctly. Upon confirming that a tool works as it should, the workers apply the necessary labels to it. The 20-volt MAX XR three-speed cordless drill and screwdriver has seven labels. To ensure that the tool has all required labels, the worker places it in a custom error-proofing fixture that has sensors for detecting areas of the tool that are missing a label.
DeWalt uses brushless motors in many of its tools. Brushless motors are more efficient, more durable, and lighter than brushed motors. They don’t require as much maintenance either.
Other tools that are made at the Charlotte plant include reciprocating saws, impact wrenches, hammer drills, and flashlights. This plant also creates brushless and brushed motors for installation in its tools.
DeWalt’s Charlotte factory is 1.2 million square feet and employs around 500 people. It stays in operation all days of the week. DeWalt implements lean manufacturing principles and Kaizen philosophy to optimize its processes. The same layouts and processes are used in the company’s other plants.
DeWalt is experimenting with collaborative robots, automatic cells, and 3D printing to further improve its processes. Collaborative robots would save employees time and effort on loading and unloading tasks.

Warranty Information
There are several different warranties that may come with your DeWalt product. It depends on the specific tool, so always check the product description for details. Possible warranties include a three-year limited warranty, seven-year limited liability warranty, limited warranty, limited lifetime warranty, and full lifetime warranty.
All DeWalt products come with a 30-day comfort guarantee, which means you can get a refund on a product you don’t find comfortable to use. Footwear products come with a 90-day money-back guarantee for defects in workmanship or material. Some DEWALT tools have a 90-day money-back guarantee in which you can return the product if you’re unsatisfied with it.
DeWalt warranties don’t cover damage from regular wear and tear or improper use of the product. Attempting to repair a product could also void the warranty, even if you send it to someone else for repair. Most DEWALT tools come with a one-year free service contract, which allows you to send the tool to DEWALT for maintenance and repair of regular use.
Mechanics tools that are under a full lifetime warranty don’t require proof of purchase for DeWalt to replace it. You must call DeWalt to have your replacement shipped, as the store won’t accept returns.
